Frequently Asked Questions & Formulas
What is BMI and how is it calculated?
BMI is a numerical value derived from a person's mass and height. The formula is weight (kg) / [height (m)]^2. In imperial units, it is [weight (lbs) / height (in)^2] * 703.
Is BMI accurate for athletic people?
BMI does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass. Therefore, highly muscular individuals may register as 'overweight' despite having low body fat levels.
